The Cyberabad police issued an advisory appealing to parents, teachers and students to treat examinations as only a part of life. This advisory follows the death of a school student who ended his life in Gachibowli allegedly after being asked by his parents to get ready for school. Referring to the incident, police said increasing academic pressure and constant comparison over marks and ranks are pushing students into extreme mental stress, with some feeling that there is no future beyond examinations. Police likened life to sport, where both victories and defeats are inevitable, and encouraged students to bounce back from failures. They said defeat teaches valuable lessons and can become a stepping stone to success if students introspect, learn from mistakes and plan their future wisely with guidance from mentors and well-wishers. The advisory called on parents to recognise that their children’s lives and well-being are far more important than marks or ranks, warning that excessive pressure in the name of academic achievement can be counterproductive. It urged adults to avoid constant comparisons, understand that every child has different abilities and interests, and spend quality time with them to identify problems early. Officials said teachers and parents have a responsibility to explain the realities of competition and limited opportunities in a balanced manner, while also reinforcing the importance of life beyond examinations. They cautioned against burdening children with continuous tests, long study hours and relentless coaching schedules that leave little room for rest or recreation.
