District Election Officer and Collector V. Saravanan has urged bankers, pawn brokers and owners of marriage and meeting halls, and printing presses to strictly adhere to the model code of conduct. Chairing a meeting with representatives of these sectors to brief them on the election model code of conduct here on Tuesday, Mr. Saravanan told bankers that the Election Commission had framed a standard operating procedure (SOP) for transporting cash following information that ambulances and vehicles were transporting cash for banks. Flying squad officers and other election officials can now check whether the transported cash was meant for banks through the QR code generated through the Expenditure Seizure and Management System App. However, third persons unconnected to the banks should not transport cash. Those carrying the cash should carry identity cards and have relevant documents and produce the same to the officials when asked for.
