Members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Tuesday staged a protest in front of the Mayiladuthurai Municipality office, demanding permission for pavement vendors to operate shops at the newly opened bus terminus in Manakkudi. The protest follows the inauguration of the new bus stand on March 13, which led to the closure of the temporary bus facility on Park Avenue Road. Vendors who had been operating pavement shops at the now-defunct facility said they had lost their livelihoods due to the relocation.
