As a part of the National Road Safety Month celebrations, a road safety awareness rally was taken out from Prakasam Bhavan to Mini Stadium in Ongole under the auspices of the Transport department, on Tuesday.

Prakasam District Joint Collector R. Gopala Krishna flagged off the rally along with Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao and Mayor Gangada Sujatha. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gopala Krishna called upon everyone to work towards making Prakasam an accident-free district.

He said that the road safety awareness rally was held under the theme ‘Safety through Training – Transformation through Technology’ to create awareness among the people to prevent road accidents.

The Joint Collector said that such special programmes will be organised on a large scale this month. He said that special attention is being paid to the areas where road accidents frequently occur and steps taken to prevent them.

“It is everyone’s responsibility to follow the rules. Two-wheeler riders must wear helmets and should not drive under the influence of alcohol. The State government is taking strict action against drugs and other narcotic substances, which will also reduce the number of accidents,” the MLA said.

The Mayor said that the government was taking steps to ensure public safety. She said that accidents could be controlled if everyone stayed responsible while travelling.
