Justice T. Madhavi Devi of Telangana High Court issued notices to Bhadradri Kothagudem Collector in a writ petition seeking a direction to officials to act upon their representation to introduce the mandatory 15% reservations to Scheduled Castes in the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies. Two persons Gaddam Ramu and Modugu Joga Rao knocked the doors of the HC stating that the district authorities were not enforcing the 15% reservations to SCs on the presumption that total reservations should not exceed 50%. This was against the apex court ruling that the ceiling of 50% reservation would not be applicable to the areas falling under the fifth schedule of the Constitution, they contended. There was no response from the officials despite presenting representation to them in the matter, they said in the plea. They requested the court to instruct the authorities to follow 15% reservations to SCs before issuing notification for election of ZPTCs members. The matter was posted to January 27 for next hearing.
