Transgender activists in the city demanded the withdrawal of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026 which was introduced recently by the Union government. They said that it is a regression in the struggle for dignity and equality for transgender persons in India.

Transgender activist and founder of Trans Rights Now Collective Grace Banu stated that the new amendments intended to take them back to the life they followed 15 years ago. “We had already gone through these very difficulties before. To once again regress into the same method without moving forward is painful,” she said.
