The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has decided to withdraw its decision to develop the Golden Jubilee Hospital (GJH) under the Private Public Partnership (PPP)-mode, announced port personnel officer Kanaka Raju, and Dr. S. Usha Devi, Chief Medical Officer of GJH, to the striking port and dock workers on Monday. The port and dock workers, for the past 532 days under the aegis of CITU, have been staging a relay hunger strike outside the hospital opposing the VPA’s decision to ‘develop the hospital under the PPP-mode. The VPA representatives visited the protest camp and informed the workers that the management has decided to continue the hospital under the existing O&M (Operation and Maintenance) procedure with the control remaining with the VPA.
