A woman committed suicide by jumping off into the Bhima over social boycott following her son’s illicit relationship in Wadagera taluk. The Wadagera Police on Sunday took two persons into custody in connection with the case of suicide by the woman following the social boycott incident in Joladadagi village of Yadgir district. This followed a charge against her son that he was in an illicit relationship with a woman. The deceased woman was identified as 46-year-old Kamalamma Yallappa Suryavamshi, a native of Giri Nagar area in Yadgir city. According to an FIR, the woman belonged to the Shillekyate community and was selling fish. She was being mentally harassed by five men from the same community and was also subjected to a social boycott after her son was said to be in an illicit relationship with the woman who is a relative of the victim. The FIR, quoting the complaint lodged by the victim’s husband, Yallappa Narasappa Suryavamshi, as saying, revealed that the accused harassed the victim by not letting her carry out her fish business and boycotted her from the community over the issue. Unable to bear the mental agony, the victim jumped into the Bhima near Joladadagi village between 5.30 p.m. on March 14 and 11.30 a.m. on March 15. The police registered the case under Section 108 of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita 2023 against five men, Amalappa Lalappa Kattimani, a native of Joladadagi village, Huchhappa Aganappa Kattimani, a native of Giri Nagar, Yadgir city, Shivanna Hanamanth Natekar, a native of Giri Nagar, Goudappa Aganappa Kattimani, a native of Shahapur, and Suresh Lalappa Kattimani, a native of Giri Nagar area in Yadgir city. Confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police Prutwik Shankar told The Hindu over phone that the police have taken two accused into custody. They are carrying out investigation of the main allegation of social boycott and abetment to commit suicide. He added that the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
