Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Monday criticised the State government following reports that a 66-year-old woman was allegedly targeted in an attempted sexual assault by a group of youth in Salem.

In a post on X, the party said the incident was shocking and claimed it reflected a deterioration in law and order in Tamil Nadu under the government led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.

The party alleged crimes such as robberies and murders were increasing and that even elderly women were no longer safe in the State. It also claimed that the circulation of narcotic substances, including ganja, had contributed to such incidents and accused the government of failing to control drug use.

TVK said youth falling into drug abuse were engaging in violent acts and added that the government had failed to ensure public safety.
