BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran and Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) preisdent G. K. Vasan on Monday criticised the State government following an alleged incident in which a group of men, reportedly under the influence of ganja, entered a government hospital in Kattumannarkoil and threatened patients and doctors.

In a post on X, Mr. Nagenthran said the men had entered the maternity ward of the government hospital in Kattumannarkoil in Cuddalore district and threatened those present with sickles. Though no one was injured, the incident had caused fear among patients and medical staff, he said.

Criticising the government led by CM M. K. Stalin, Mr. Nagenthran alleged narcotic substances were easily available across the State and that people under the influence of drugs were roaming freely in public places.

In a separate statement, Mr. Vasan said the incident highlighted the growing spread of narcotics in Tamil Nadu. He urged the police to take strict action against those involved and called on the government to curb the circulation of drugs, warning that substance abuse was contributing to crimes such as theft, murder and sexual offences.
