Surveillance cameras will be installed in all polling booths in Perambalur district as per the Election Commission instructions for monitoring the District Election Officer / District Collector N. Mirunalini said here on Monday.

A total of 5,279 government officials and police personnel have been drafted for election-related work in Perambalur district, Ms. Mirunalini said.

The Collector told presspersons here that Perambalur district consisting of Perambalur (SC) and Kunnam Assembly constituencies had 732 polling booths in which surveillance cameras would be installed. Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams had been constituted in each Assembly constituency. A 24-hour Election Control Room has been opened at the District Collectorate. 

General public and political parties can lodge election-related complaints in the toll-free number 1800 599 4402. The Election Commission had created a mobile App CVigil to lodge complaints through mobile phone relating to the Model Code of Conduct violations, attracting voters by way of bribing them and those pertaining to threatening the voters by sending photographs, video or audio clips.  

Cash totalling ₹50,000 and articles worth over ₹10,000 being carried during the election period would be seized during checks if proper documents were not shown to the officials.  In order to avoid such instances, the Collector advised the general public, farmers, traders, and industrialists to carry necessary original documents with them. Representatives of political parties could apply for permission for holding public meetings through the Suvidha App.
