The Erode district police have registered a case against a candidate of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) in the Anthiyur Assembly constituency for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by participating in a public meeting without permission here on Sunday (March 15, 2026).

According to the police, the election schedule for the Tamil Nadu Assembly was announced on Sunday evening, bringing the MCC into immediate effect. Public meetings and demonstrations are not permitted without prior approval once the code comes into force.

Following the announcement, a candidate introduction meeting was reportedly held on Car Street in Anthiyur on Sunday evening by the NTK. The party’s candidate Anandhi attended the meeting.

Based on a complaint lodged by Village Administrative Officer Murugesan, the Anthiyur police registered a case against Anandhi and NTK State coordinator Thirumoorthy for allegedly conducting the meeting without obtaining prior permission.

Earlier, NTK Chief Coordinator Seeman had announced candidates for all 234 constituencies in the State, including Anandhi for the Anthiyur constituency.
