The Transport department on Tuesday stated that they had generated a revenue of ₹5,142 crore in the first nine months of 2025–26.

The department stated that this revenue was derived from lifetime taxes of ₹3,611 crore, quarterly taxes of ₹730 crore, green tax of ₹57 crore, various fees of ₹408 crore. A revenue generation of ₹181 crore was through inspections and service charges of ₹153 crore.

With massive passenger traffic expected during the Sankranti holiday season, the department warned private bus operators that strict action would be taken against owners who charge exorbitant fares. Similar action will ensue if they are found illegally transporting goods or operating vehicles in violation of permit conditions, including running contract carriages as stage carriages.

The Transport department has directed its officials to conduct special inspections of private buses during the festive season. Vehicles found violating rules will be seized, the department said, adding that the measures were aimed at protecting passengers and ensuring compliance with transport regulations.
