Calcutta, March 15: Under the presidency of Mahamahopadhyaya Haraprasad Sastri, a public meeting was held in Albert Hall in yesterday, to protest against the proposal of the Government of India for removing the Imperial Library from Calcutta to Delhi. Messages of sympathy with the objects of the meeting, were read from the National Council of Education, the British Indian Association, the Calcutta University, the University Law College and most of the other educational institutions in Calcutta and the mofussil. A Committee was formed to take the necessary steps for retention of the library in Calcutta. The President pointed out that the library was a transferred subject and that, under the Library Act, the Government could not remove the Imperial Library from Calcutta.
