According to officials, this is the highest monthly income from the project since its launch in 2021, surpassing the previous record of ₹4.5 crore set in December 2024. They attribute the milestone to a combination of attractively priced tour packages and a strong response from travellers. “The encouraging public participation has been the key driver behind this achievement,” said R. Sunil Kumar, State Coordinator of Budget Tourism Cell. He also attributed the boost in revenue to the new travel packages rolled out under the initiative in anticipation of the winter mist and the festive holiday rush during December and January. Malakkappara and Munnar emerged as the most sought-after destinations among travellers, Mr. Kumar added. At present, Budget Tourism Cell packages are operated from 80 of the 90 KSRTC depots across the State. In December, the corporation conducted 2,505 trips, carrying 1,16,300 passengers to various tourist and pilgrimage destinations. Tour packages to popular destinations in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, including Meghamalai, Ooty, Kodaikanal, Rameswaram and Kanyakumari, are also drawing a large number of tourists. KSRTC deploys its Super Fast, Fast Passenger and Super Deluxe buses for Budget Tourism services. As part of fleet augmentation, 150 new buses in green and yellow livery have been earmarked for the scheme, with 17 of them having already hit the road.
