The Kerala Cabinet has decided to include 10,115 farmers who crossed 60 years of age in 2021 in the pension scheme for small and marginal farmers. They will be eligible to receive a monthly pension of ₹2,000. The State government will sanction ₹24.27 crore for meeting the additional expenditure. The Principal Secretary (Agriculture) also has been tasked with examining a further 2,225 applications seeking eligibility for the pension. At present 6,201 farmers are eligible for the pension. The Cabinet also decided to sanction ₹76.88 crore towards urgent assistance for crop damage arising from natural calamities and ₹43.19 crore for clearing the arrears on crop insurance going back to June 2024.
