A member of the Railway Board visited Kumbakonam for a first-hand assessment of the requirements of train services and passenger amenities in the temple town for the Mahamaham festival scheduled to be held in 2028.

Hitendra Malhotra, Member (Operations & Business Development), Railway Board, inspected the Kumbakonam Railway Station, which is slated for overall major redevelopment.

The primary objective of the inspection was advance planning for train operations and crowd management in view of the Mahamaham Festival 2028, a 10-day mega event which is expected to attract a very large inflow of passengers, according to a communication from the Tiruchi Railway Division.

J. Vinayan, Principal Chief Commercial Manager; Arun J. Rathod, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Southern Railway Headquarters; Balak Ram Negi, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi; S. Subramanian, Chief Passenger Transport Manager, Southern Railway and other senior officials of the division accompanied Mr.Malhotra during the visit.

Representatives of train users associations submitted memorandums to the Railway Board member, pressing for various demands concerning operation of new trains and strengthening the rail network in the region.
