The Mayiladuthurai district administration has urged fishermen from the district who are in Iran to share their details in view of the prevailing situation in the West Asia region. According to an official release, several fishermen from Tamil Nadu had sought assistance to leave Iran amid the escalating tensions. A list containing details of 595 fishermen stranded in Iran had been submitted to the government through the Department of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare. Of them, 13 fishermen were from Mayiladuthurai district.
