Activists have raised serious concern over the original Investigation Officer (IO) not invoking the POCSO Act in the rape and murder of a two-and-a-half year old girl in Anchetty, Krishnagiri, in December last year, despite the post-mortem report establishing sexual assault. The investigating officer of the case Sumitha (since suspended), who was then Inspector of Anchetty police station, had ignored the post-mortem report produced in the first week of murder indicating rape and murder. She had failed to investigate the case as such allowing it to remain as a case of unnatural death with the accused at large. It was only in February, a new inspector of the Anchetty station took up the post-mortem report and revised the charges to rape and murder. The victim’s mother’s intimate partner was arrested for the heinous crime.
