A 20-year-old college student drowned in a river while bathing with friends at Rajapuram on Friday evening (March 13). The deceased was identified as V.M. Ashwin Raj, 20, son of Ravindran and Girija of Thonikkal, Karakkode. He was a third-year BSc student of St. Pius X College, Rajapuram. According to the police, Ashwin, after finishing a bath, jumped into the river to retrieve a bucket but was carried away by the currents. Though locals brought him ashore and rushed him to hospital, he could not be saved.
