Mayiladuthurai MP R. Sudha Proposing an East Coast Railway akin to Konkan Railway, R. Sudha, Mayiladuthurai MP, has written to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on the benefits that could be tapped from the proposed project. She said Tamil Nadu, with a coastline of 1,076 kilometres, had all the potential for a greenfield railway line connecting many major cities and towns. If a railway line connecting Pazhaverkadu at the northern end of the State and Kanniyakumari on the southern tip was laid, the tourism potential it would unlock would be immense as the route was very scenic. With many religious places located along the route, it would increase the footfall of tourists and boost the economy, she said.
