The body of a woman, who went missing in the Neyyar Dam a day ago, was recovered on Friday in an extensive search operation led by a scuba diving team.

The police identified the deceased as Sharanya of Nemom, who works as an office assistant at the Regional Transport Office at Thampanoor.

Initially, Sharanya’s husband, Cyril, told the police that she had been under severe mental stress after being denied a job transfer. However, her relatives raised serious allegations of domestic abuse.

She is believed to have earlier filed a complaint with the police against her husband. Cyril used to purportedly subject her to physical abuse under the influence of alcohol.

According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that the death was linked more to harassment and abuse by her husband than to work-related stress. She had secured the government job 11 months ago.
