A village administrative officer (VAO) and a broker were arrested for bribery on Friday. Elango, a resident of Kunjandiyur near Mettur, is running a petrol bunk. To change the name in the patta for his land, he approached Navapatti VAO Bakkiyaraj (36). But the VAO demanded ₹14,000 bribe to complete the work. Unwilling to pay the amount, Elango approached DVAC officials and as per their instructions gave the bribe amount to broker Jagadesh (36). The DVAC nabbed him red-handed and based on his information, the DVAC also nabbed Bakkiyaraj.
