Rise in Temperatures Across Maharashtra, Showers Predicted Post-March 14

Several districts across Maharashtra are recording a rise in day temperatures, with the State experiencing dry and hot weather conditions.

Coastal regions, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and the broader Konkan belt, are bracing for hot and humid weather. An official from the IMD stated that while no rainfall is expected in these areas on Wednesday and Thursday, the combination of humidity and temperature may lead to conditions of thermal discomfort.

Temperatures have seen an uptick in the interior parts of the State. Districts such as Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur, and Ahmednagar have recorded a rise in maximum temperatures. In Vidarbha, Akola recorded the State’s highest temperature at 41 degrees Celsius. Mumbai city registered a temperature of approximately 34°C on Wednesday (March 11, 2026).

Speaking on the prevailing conditions, Sakharam Sanap, a meteorologist at the Pune Observatory, attributed the temperature rise to an anti-cyclonic circulation over parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra. “This system is causing the air to subside, leading to an increase in temperatures. There is no widespread heatwave condition, but its impact is being observed in specific areas,” Mr. Sanap explained. He urged citizens to take precautions, avoid exposure to the afternoon sun, and maintain hydration by consuming water and other fluids.

In the coastal metropolis of Mumbai, temperatures have risen, accompanied by humid air. A layer of mist was observed in some areas during the morning hours, which officials attributed to local pollution levels. The IMD has clarified that the current weather pattern does not warrant public alarm.

The weather pattern is, however, expected to shift by the weekend. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, for the Vidarbha, Marathwada, and south Maharashtra regions on March 13 and 14. While conditions will remain dry for the most part on Thursday, isolated light showers are possible in some areas from Friday onward. This predicted spell of rain is expected to provide temporary relief from the prevailing heat in these regions.
