The recognition came during a regional seminar on innovations and best practices in aspirational districts and blocks organised by NITI Aayog at A1 Grand Convention Centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on March 9 under the theme ‘Southern Accelerators of Change’. Deputy Commissioner B. Fauzia Taranum participated in the seminar and presented the district’s initiatives implemented in the aspirational blocks of Afzalpur, Shahabad and Kalagi. She explained that pregnant women in these areas are being registered for antenatal care during the first trimester, and provided nutritional support to improve maternal health, while ensuring that all deliveries take place in healthcare institutions. Appreciating the initiative, Rohit Kumar, Additional Secretary of NITI Aayog, described the programme as a replicable model that could be adopted in other districts. District Collectors from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, participated in the workshop. Kalaburagi district’s administration had earlier received appreciation from NITI Aayog in November 2025 for implementing innovative governance and development initiatives to ensure sustained progress in its aspirational blocks. The district’s Kalagi block had also secured the second rank in the southern region under the Aspirational Blocks Programme Delta Ranking 2024 announced by NITI Aayog in August 2024, in recognition of its performance in sectors such as education, healthcare, skill development and agriculture aimed at improving the quality of life of residents.
