Moot court competition in Belagavi from today

Karnatak Law Society will organise the 16th M.K. Nambyar Memorial National Level Moot Court Competition 2026 in the KLS Raja Lakhamagouda Law College in Belagavi from Friday till Sunday.

Over 100 participants from nine States will compete for a total prize money of ₹1.35 lakh while debating on the topic of pros and cons of government interventions in ensuring the Right to Health.

“The 30 participating teams include those from National Law Schools in various cities,” society secretary S.V. Ganachari and college governing council chairman R.S. Mutalik told reporters here on Thursday.

“About 50 senior lawyers and academicians from the High Court and District Court will participate as moot judges and evaluate the competitors. The former Attorney General of India K.K. Venugopal is the chief patron of the competition. Mr. Venugopal, who studied in the college, has set up an annual scholarship for the college that helps it conduct the moot court event. Prizes will be awarded in various categories to teams and individuals. They include best mooters, male and female and a special award instituted by advocate Ashok N. Potdar,” Mr. Mutalik said.

Judge of the High Court of Karnataka Jyothi M. will inaugurate the event on Friday at 5.30 p.m.

Society president Pradeep S. Sawkar, secretaries and members will be present. The closing ceremony will be held on Sunday at 4.30 p.m. High Court Judge Vijayakumar A. Patil will speak at the valedictory function. He will also officiate as a judge of the final rounds of the moot court competition. Society office-bearers will be present, Mr. Ganachari said.

During the inauguration, the guests will felicitate the eight students of the college who have cleared all three rounds of examination and have been selected for the posts of Civil Judge Shreya Utture, Priyanka Rajgolkar, Vijay Kumar Budri, Nagaraj Talwar, Halyalappa, Mounesh Badiger, Naveen Khoparde and Jagadish Kittur.

“Compared to all law colleges in the State, we have produced the highest number of successful candidates in this examination this year,’’ Principal A.H. Hawaldar said.

Moot court coordinator Ashwini Parab, faculty member Manjunath Kale, student coordinator Sunidhi Joshi and others were present at the press conference.
