World Kidney Day observed in Mysuru

World Kidney Day was observed in Mysuru on Thursday, with an aim to spread awareness about the importance of maintaining kidney health and taking necessary precautions. A walkathon and cyclothon were organised as part of the programme.

The theme for this year’s World Kidney Day was ‘Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet’. The public awareness rally was organised by the Mysore Organisation of Genitourinary Surgeons in association with the Institute of Nephro-Urology (INU), Mysuru, and Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI), Mysuru. Participants held a march through the city to spread awareness on maintaining healthy kidneys.

Inaugurating the rally, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi emphasised that many organ-related diseases, particularly those affecting the kidneys, can often be prevented through proper precautions and timely detection for more effective management.

He stressed the need for greater public health awareness so that people gain healthcare knowledge and undergo a health check-up at least once a year to facilitate early detection and proper management of diseases. “Health is an invaluable asset and therefore nobody should neglect their health,” he said.

Doctors who participated in the rally advised the public not to take painkillers indiscriminately, as overuse may damage the kidneys. They also cautioned that repeated infections can harm the kidneys and emphasised the need to maintain kidney health. They noted that prevention is the best treatment when it comes to kidney-related diseases.
