The Mahadevapura police have arrested a man involved in a series of two-wheeler thefts and recovered 17 stolen vehicles worth about ₹11.8 lakh from different parts of the city and neighbouring Tamil Nadu. According to the police, the case came to light after a resident of paying guest (PG) accommodation at Ashwath Nagar in Marathahalli filed a complaint on January 26. The complainant had parked his two-wheeler near a hotel in the limits of the Mahadevapura Police Station. When he returned around 8.30 p.m., he found that the vehicle had been stolen. Based on the complaint, a case was registered and the police launched an investigation. Acting on credible information, a police team apprehended a suspect on February 23 near Pushpanjali Theatre in Andhra Colony along with the stolen two-wheeler. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to stealing the vehicle and revealed that he had been involved in multiple two-wheeler thefts across Bengaluru. He was produced before a court on February 24 and taken into police custody for 10 days. Further questioning revealed that the accused had handed over 12 stolen two-wheelers to two associates living in Bairandanahalli village in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu for sale. He also told the police that four other stolen vehicles had been parked in different areas in the city. Based on his information, the police recovered 16 two-wheelers from different locations between March 1 and March 4. The police have recovered 17 two-wheelers worth about ₹11.8 lakh. The police said the arrest helped detect nine theft cases registered at the Mahadevapura, Kadugodi, Avalahalli, Bellandur, Varthur, Bommanahalli and HSR Layout Police Stations. The owners of eight recovered vehicles are yet to be identified, and efforts are under way to trace them. The accused was produced before the court again on March 5 and was remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is in progress.
