Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has written to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri regarding the natural gas allocation to power plants. He has requested the government to revisit the methodology under the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026 to ensure adequate gas availability to meet the upcoming summer peak power demand. “Our MPs will hand over these letters in person to the concerned Union Ministers. We look forward to swift action from the government of India,” Mr. Stalin said in a social media post. Mr. Stalin also recalled having written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in view of the ongoing war in West Asia, on the “urgent issues affecting Tamil Nadu and our people abroad.” Mr. Stalin said that about 2,600 calls have been made to the Tamil Nadu government helpline seeking aid to return to the State and details of about 1,000 of them have been shared with the Union Ministry for External Affairs. He also highlighted the necessity for granting visas to people, who have to reach India through some neighbouring countries. He also said that 593 fishermen from Kanniyakumari and Thoothukudi districts have been stranded in violence-hit Iran. With regard to LPG supply disruption, Mr. Stalin sought immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply for domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers in Tamil Nadu.
