Government school teacher, headmaster arrested under POCSO Act in Tiruchi

The Manapparai All Women Police Station on Tuesday (March 10, 2026) arrested a government school teacher under the POCSO Act on charges of sexually harassing a few girl students of a government school in Manapparai taluk.

The school headmaster was also arrested under the same Act on charges of concealing the crime, failing to inform the authorities concerned, and not taking action. The arrested teacher and headmaster were identified as A. Baskar (57) and D. Velankanni (55), respectively.

Police sources said the parents of a few girl students had complained to the headmaster on March 6 against Baskar, a Class III teacher, alleging that he had sexually harassed some students. As the headmaster failed to take any action, some parents assembled in front of the school on Monday (March 9).

On receipt of information, personnel of the Manapparai All Women Police Station, along with officials of the Child Welfare Committee, conducted an inquiry, following which the teacher and the headmaster were arrested.
