Unruly scenes marred the Adilabad Municipal Council meeting on Tuesday as the newly elected municipal councillors of the ruling Congress party and the BJP engaged in a verbal spat over the drinking water issue. A war of words broke out between the Congress and the BJP councillors during the meeting when the latter insisted on an elaborate discussion on ‘irregular’ drinking water supply in some residential colonies under municipal limits ahead of peak summer. The BJP’s municipal councillors staged a sit-in in front of the chamber of the Adilabad municipal chairperson Anusha in protest against what they called as ‘abrupt adjournment’ of the meeting without discussing the drinking water issue in detail. Sources said that the chaos continued for nearly an hour as the two groups engaged themselves in verbal spat.
