Robert Bruce has appealed to Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar to take immediate steps to rescue the 43 Idinthakarai fishermen stranded in Iran and other West Asian countries. In a memorandum submitted to the minister, Mr. Robert Bruce said a total of 43 fishermen from Idinthakarai near Koodankulam in the district had gone to Iran and a few more Gulf countries for fishing in the mechanised boats owned by Iranians and other West Asian nationals. After war broke out, the fishermen have been stranded as air services to West Asia remain paralysed.
