Mysuru MP welcomes move to drop stadium project at KSIC filature site

Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has welcomed the government’s decision to drop the proposed stadium project at the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) filature factory premises in T. Narsipura. Describing it as good news for admirers of the world-famous Mysore silks, he said the decision marked a significant victory for those who opposed the project.

Mr. Wadiyar was reacting to the announcement made by Sericulture Minister K. Venkatesh in the Legislative Assembly on Monday that the proposed stadium construction had been dropped.

Welcoming the move, Mr. Wadiyar said it was a victory for the united struggle of workers and supporters. “Several BJP leaders, including myself, had participated in the protest organised by the workers. The government’s decision to withdraw the project is therefore welcome,” he said.

He added that he had extended moral support to the workers by joining their protest and had later met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah personally to submit a request urging the government to abandon the stadium proposal.

“If a stadium had been built at the site, the livelihoods of hundreds of workers would have been affected. Moreover, more than 500 trees in the premises would have been cut down. Hence, I had appealed to the government to drop the project,” he said.

Mr. Wadiyar noted that the outcome was the result of a sustained struggle by workers, prominent leaders, environmentalists, various organisations and the BJP workers. He also expressed his personal gratitude to everyone who directly and indirectly supported the movement..
