The district administration has issued a health advisory urging people to remain vigilant and adhere to precautionary measures following the detection of H5N1 avian influenza (bird flu) virus in samples collected from a dead crow. In a press note, Collector M.S. Prasanth stated that bird flu is a viral disease which primarily spreads among birds. The infection is generally identified through laboratory tests conducted on dead birds, as it spreads from infected birds to others, leading to mortality. The disease may spread to humans through direct contact with infected birds or under unhygienic conditions. Individuals experiencing symptoms of influenza-like illness (ILI), such as cough, cold, fever and breathing difficulty are advised to seek immediate medical attention. If flu-like symptoms develop, they should consult the nearest Government Primary Health Centre and Government Hospital. Any unusual bird deaths must be reported immediately to the Department of Animal Husbandry, the Collector said.
