The Indian Railways on Tuesday announced the introduction of two Amrit Bharat Express trains — one from Cherlapalli to Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu and another from Cherlapalli to Kamakhya, a major pilgrimage destination in Assam.

The inaugural run of the Nagercoil–Cherlapalli weekly Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 06357) will be on Wednesday (March 11). The train will depart from Nagercoil at 5.30 p.m. and arrive at Cherlapalli at 11.45 p.m. on Thursday. Regular service timings will be announced later.

The train will halt at Nalgonda, Miryalguda, Sattenapalli, Guntur, Tenali, Bapatla, Chirala, Ongole, Nellore, Nayudupeta, Sullurpeta, Chennai Egmore, Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tiruppadiripuliyur, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Kumbakonam, Papanasam, Thanjavur, Tiruchchirappalli, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Satur, Kovilpatti, Tirunelveli and Valliyur.

The second Amrit Bharat Express — between Kamakhya and Cherlapalli — will have its inaugural run on Friday (March 13) with sleeper and general second-class coaches. The new service will connect Telangana and Andhra Pradesh with Assam, the gateway to the Northeast. This will benefit long-distance passengers travelling towards northeastern states by offering a safe, comfortable and cost‑effective option.

The train will halt at Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram Jn, Pendurti, Duvvada, Samalkot Jn, Rajahmundry, Tanuku, Bhimavaram Town, Gudivada, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nalgonda, among others, in both directions, the release added.

Record scrap sale

The South Central Railway (SCR), which pioneered the ‘Mission Zero Scrap’ drive — mandating that no scrap remain undisposed for more than a month — has earned ₹602.06 crore from scrap sales so far this financial year (2025–26), surpassing the Railway Board’s target of ₹510 crore. SCR sold 1,32,583 metric tonnes of scrap through e‑auctions. Last year, it earned ₹501.72 crore, securing the top position among all railway zones in the country.
