All local self-government institutions should prepare a detailed plan before April 1, 2026, and begin pre-monsoon cleaning activities, district panchayat president K.G. Radhakrishnan has said.

He was speaking at a one-day workshop held at the Planning Committee Hall at the Collectorate ahead of this year’s pre-monsoon cleaning activities. The event, organised by the Local Self-Government department, was presided over by District Collector G. Priyanka.

Haritha Karma Sena members should ensure that all types of inorganic waste are collected from homes and institutions. The collected waste should not be dumped in public places and must be transferred to mini Material Collection Facilities (MCFs) on the same day.

Steps should be taken to clean drains, canals and water bodies and destroy the breeding grounds of mosquitoes, rats, etc. As part of the monsoon preparations, all local self-government bodies should prepare action plans on a ward basis.

He said the action plans should be completed before April 20. The maximum amount that ward cleanliness committees can spend on activities has been fixed at ₹30,000 for panchayats, ₹40,000 for municipalities, and ₹60,000 for corporations.

The meeting also suggested that waste management activities in densely populated areas and places where migrant workers live should be carried out under the leadership of local self-government bodies. Dr. Sheetal G. Mohan, district coordinator, Suchitwa Mission, explained the pre-monsoon cleaning circular.
