Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Minister P. Geetha Jeevan distributed free laptops to college students at the event held at V.O.C. Engineering College in Thoothukudi on Monday.

Following the launch and distribution by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai, she distributed the laptops to students at the event presided over by Thoothukudi district collector K. Elambahavath.

Addressing the gathering, she emphasised that Tamil Nadu is one of the leading states in India to implement projects. “Just as we search the dictionary to understand the meaning of the new word, other Indian states look into Tamil Nadu to learn about projects successfully implemented here,” she noted.

She added that the laptops were equipped with advanced technologies, including AI enabled features with a pre-paid six months subscription by the government. Highlighting the device supports software development, data entry, graphic design, coding and other digital skills, she exhorted the students to make full use of them for their academic and professional growth.

A total of 1,887 laptops were distributed at the event.
