As expected, Congress candidates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vem Narender Reddy were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Telangana.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations was March 9. They were announced elected as the application of only one other candidate was rejected as the nomination form did not have the requisite support in the form of proposers.

Mr. Singhvi and Mr. Reddy filed their nominations at the Telangana Legislative Assembly on March 5 in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues.

Mr Singhvi, a senior Supreme Court advocate, was remoninated by the Congress from Telangana after finishing his short term. He was elected for one-and-a-half years in the seat vacated by BRS MP K Keshava Rao, who joined the Congress after the Revanth Reddy government took over.

Mr. Reddy, a close friend of Mr. Revanth Reddy had been sailing with the CM since they were in the Telugu Desham Party. He was appointed as the Advisor to Government after Mr. Revanth Reddy assumed the post of Chief Minister in December 2023.

Speaking to reporters later, Mr. Narender Reddy extended his gratitude to AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others for choosing him to serve the State.

Mr. Reddy said he woud raise Telangana’s issues in the Rajya Sabha and his voice would reflect Telangana and its needs at the national level.
