Tiruchi city witnessed severe traffic congestion on Monday, particularly along the city stretch of the Tiruchi–Chennai National Highway, because of the DMK State Conference at Siruganur. The event, attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, along with senior leaders, attracted thousands of party cadres and supporters from across the State. This led to a heavy influx of vehicles toward the conference venue. Because of the massive turnout, traffic on major routes, including Mannarpuram, TVS Tollgate, and the Tiruchi–Chennai National Highway stretch within the city was severely affected, with long queues of vehicles reported in several stretches. The police had earlier announced special traffic diversions starting from 6 a.m. to manage the inflow of vehicles heading towards Siruganur. Public transport was in high demand, with several commuters reportedly stranded near the Mannarpuram bus stop, waiting for hours for buses.
