The Salem Corporation has sterilised 21,066 dogs in the last five years through the animal birth control (ABC) centres. The two ABC centres functioning in the city, at Vaikkalpattarai (Ward 9) and Shevapet (Ward 28), facilitated sterilisation for 21,066 dogs from January 2021 to December 2025 (2021- 695 dogs, 2022- 3,169, 2023- 4,668, 2024- 10,102, 2025- 2,432).
