Continuing its campaign to spread awareness about cleanliness among residents and to promote Mysuru’s “Swachh” image, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Sunday organised a Swachhata Road Show that drew a large number of participants who joined hands with the civic body in its efforts, as the results of the Swachh Survekshan are awaited.

District in-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa flagged off the road show and urged residents to support and cooperate with the government by actively participating in the cleanliness initiatives taken up by the MCC for the city.

Mr. Mahadevappa said several major awareness programmes are being organised in Mysuru on maintaining cleanliness, highlighting the harmful effects of narcotic substances, and emphasising the importance of safeguarding public health.

Recalling that the foundation for Mysuru’s global reputation was laid by Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, he said it was the responsibility of every citizen to preserve the city’s cleanliness and pass on its rich heritage to future generations.

The Minister lauded the efforts of sanitation workers and civic staff in maintaining cleanliness in the city and appealed to the public to cultivate civic discipline by avoiding littering, spitting in public places, and allowing pets to defecate indiscriminately in public areas. “If everyone follows discipline and civic responsibility, Mysuru will remain a beautiful city,” he said.

Mr. Mahadevappa also referred to the observance of International Women’s Day on March 8, noting that the day highlights the importance of education, equality, economic independence, and political empowerment for women.

He said Dr. B.R.Ambedkar had framed laws advocating equal opportunities and equal wages for women, and emphasised that women play a vital role in shaping families and building a progressive society.

The Swachhata Road Show procession began from the Mysuru Palace premises and concluded at the Maharaja College Grounds. A horse unit comprising ten horses attracted attention during the procession. Cultural performances such as Pooja Kunitha, Dollu Kunitha, Veeragase, Nagari and Lambani dance added colour to the event. Folk troupes presented Pata Kunitha, Kamsale, Garadi Gombe and Goravara Kunitha, while around 200 NSS volunteers and 300 NCC cadets also took part. More than 600 pourakarmikas, MCC officials and staff, along with 25 modern solid waste management vehicles, participated in the procession, spreading the message of cleanliness.

The road show featured vintage cars, motorbike riders, cultural troupes, sanitation workers, students, and members of various organisations who participated in spreading awareness about cleanliness.

MLAs Tanveer Sait, G.T. Deve Gowda and K. Harish Gowda, Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy G., MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif and others were present.

Noted sculptor Arun Yogiraj, Bigg Boss Kannada participant Suraj Singh, singers All Ok (Alok) and Ananya Bhat, who are Swachhata brand ambassadors, also joined the event. Singer Jaskaran Singh attended as a special guest. After reaching the Maharaja College Grounds, dignitaries and citizens took the Swachhata pledge.

Later, at the expo organised at the venue, various stalls set up by the MCC showcased proper collection, transportation and scientific disposal of solid waste. Demonstrations of a sewage water treatment unit and displays of alternative products promoting a plastic-free lifestyle were held.
