Additionally, the seasonal increase in day temperatures is pushing up energy needs of domestic and commercial and industrial categories, taking the peak load in the Southern Discom to 11,129 megawatt on Friday (March 6, 2026). According to officials of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana limited (TGSPDCL), the maximum peak load recorded in the State was on March 3 when it closed 18,139 MW. However, a new peak load in Southern Discom was recorded on Friday. On the same day (March 6) last year, the peak load was 10,310 MW. Energy consumption has also increased significantly in the Greater Hyderabad area with March 3 recording a maximum load of 4,421 MW. The previous all-time peak demand recorded last year in the TGSPDCL has already been surpassed earlier this month. Districts with high agricultural usage also recorded a considerable increase in demand for electricity. The maximum demand in combined districts of Nalgonda recorded on Friday was 2,459 MW. It was 2,326 MW in Mahabubnagar and 2,181 MW in Medak. According to Chairman and Managing Director of the TGSPDCL, Jitesh V. Patil, necessary measures were taken to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers considering the record rise in demand. He added that field-level officials and staff were instructed to continuously monitor the load on 33 kV/11 kV feeders and power transformers in substations in view of the increasing load.
