To prevent crime against women and children in rural areas of Tirupati district, the police have increased the frequency of patrols.

Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu announced the decision ahead of the International Women’s Day observed on March 8 every year. Women employees in the department will be accorded priority in such frontline positions and provided special training. They will also be used to spread awareness among rural people on their rights as well as the legal shield available to women in case of assaults.

Mr. Subbarayudu honoured the policewomen who played a key role in reaching out to women through awareness community-oriented meetings at village centres and in schools/colleges. He called upon them to keep the women informed on cyber crime, cyber bullying and the toll-free numbers to be contacted during emergency situations.

He later inaugurated a medical camp for women employees, where their vitals such as blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels were tested.
