File | Photo Credit: Reuters Uber, a ride-hailing app on Friday (March 6, 2026) announced its foray into intercity bus ticketing in India, in partnership with AbhiBus, a bus ticketing platform owned by Ixigo Group. With this, Uber globally makes its maiden foray into the bus segment and the idea is to cash in on a huge addressable mobity market of $13 billion of which bus operations alone account for $6 to $8 billion while the rest is cab services including intra and intercity. The service is available from March 6th, across the country. Praveen Neppalli Naga, chief technology officer, Uber said, “India is one of Uber’s most important innovation hubs globally. Teams here are building technologies that power Uber’s next phase of growth worldwide.’’ The launch of intercity bus ticketing reflected how products incubated in India were shaping Uber’s global roadmap, while expanding choice for riders, Mr. Naga added. Uber currently has 2,500 engineers in India who works on technologies, products and platforms. Addressing a media conference, Prabhjeet Singh, president, Uber India and South Asia said, “intercity travel in India is at an inflexion point. This creates a massive opportunity to reimagine how people plan and experience intercity journeys, and we see strong momentum for digital.’’ With better highway networks and road connectivity across the country, long-distancve road travel has become more accessibloe then ever before, Mr. Singh said. He further commented: “With the launch of bus ticketing services, Uber in India has become the most diverse in terms of options.
