Wrecker-in-chief: Maclaren scored four goals on the night. | Photo Credit: PTI Defending champion Mohun Bagan Super Giant proved far too strong for Odisha FC as it downed the latter 5–1 in an Indian Super League match at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Friday. Australian striker Jamie Maclaren played the key role in Bagan’s dominant display, scoring four goals while registering his first ISL hat-trick. Spanish defender Alberto Rodriguez netted the other goal, while Rahim Ali scored the lone consolation for Odisha. Carrying momentum from its 5–1 victory over Mohammedan Sporting in the previous match, Bagan started aggressively against a hesitant Odisha side. The pressure paid off in the 14th minute when a brilliant move saw Dimitri Petratos release Subhasish Bose behind the Odisha defence with a clever back-heel. The left-back surged forward and delivered a curling cross that Maclaren headed home. The Kolkata outfit doubled the lead in the 24th minute, with Maclaren finishing off a move set up by Liston Colaco. Soon after, Rodriguez made it 3–0 with a spectacular 35-yard pile-driver. Odisha pulled one back in the 43rd minute when Rahim Ali finished a counter-attack. Maclaren completed his hat-trick in first-half stoppage time from another Colaco assist, before adding his fourth goal late in the second half to seal an emphatic 5–1 victory. With this big win, Bagan stayed at the top of the standings (12 points from four matches) while Odisha FC suffered its first defeat and remained on two points from three games. The result: Mohun Bagan Super Giant 5 (Jamie Maclaren 14, 24, 45+1, 87, Alberto Rodriguez 41) bt Odisha FC 1 (Rahim Ali 43).
