Prakasam District Collector P. Rajababu along with local MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy and several district-level officials came to attend “Swachh Sankranti – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission” (Gramin) (G RAM G) programme. The villagers accorded them a grand welcome by playing drums and showering flowers. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajababu said that people get respect and recognition only through cleanliness of their surroundings. He called on the people to participate in the development of the district by maintaining proper personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness. He further said, “this Gram Sabha is organised to create more awareness among the people about cleanliness and to inform them about the development works being undertaken at the village level under the G RAM G Act. Every month, these programmes would being organised with a special theme on cleanliness of surroundings.” The Collector said that the government has decided to undertake large-scale programmes in the name of ‘Swachh Sankranti’ this month. He said that cleanliness of the surroundings and the development of the areas will be possible only with the participation of the people. Everyone should cooperate in this direction, he added. The MLA said, “We have achieved a separate district with the support and cooperation of the people. In the last one-and- a-half-year, 119-km of cement roads have been constructed in the constituency. The government hospital has been upgraded to a district level hospital. The State government has given priority to waste management, sanitation and road construction.” He also explained that the government is taking steps to make farmers rich by developing this area as a horticulture hub. He said that employment opportunities will also increase locally as a huge land bank is available in the district for setting up of new industries. He requested the Collector to promptly clear the bills of the contractors who supplied fresh water through tankers.
