A public meeting will be held at the Hasanamba Kalakshetra on March 7, 2026. | Photo Credit: Prakash Hassan The Karnataka Rajya Mahila Dourjanya Virodhi Okkuta, a forum against atrocities on women, will hold a two-day event in Hassan from March 7 to mark the International Women’s Day celebrations. The events will begin with a jatha for women’s rights in the city in the morning. Civil rights activist and advocate Teesta Setalvad and trans rights activist Akkai Padmashali will inaugurate the jatha at the open-air theatre at Maharaja Park at 9.30 a.m. Many folk troupes and artists will participate in the jatha that covers Salagame Road, R.C. Road, CSI Church, AVK College Road, Old Bus Stand, N.R. Circle, Bhagat Singh Circle, Subhash Circle, Kasturba Road, Mahaveera Circle, and concludes at Hasanamba Kalakshetra. A public meeting will be held at the Hasanamba Kalakshetra. Writer Sukanya Kanaralli, Professor Sabita Bannadi, and activists from different places will take part in the event. A compendium on women achievers of Hassan, edited by writer Rupa Hassan, will be released on the occasion. Events to spread the message of peace will be held at Mahaveera Circle in the evening. On March 8, a seminar on challenges to counter atrocities on women will be held at Hasanamba Kalakshetra. Prof. R. Sunandamma, president of Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha, will inaugurate the seminar. Prof. Shahida of Moulana Azad University in Hyderabad and T.M. Usharani from Hospete will be among the participants. Participants include writer Prof. Vinaya Okkunda, Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Nandini B.N., Stanley of Odanadi, and Kestara Mourya from Bengaluru. IAS officer K.M. Janaki will preside over the event. As part of the cultural activities, performances have been organised by the artistes from Hassan.
