The Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) levied a penalty of ₹5,000 on a hotel in the city for dumping garbage on the road. According to sources, the action was taken after OMC Commissioner Dr. K. Venkateshwara Rao found workers of Yuvraj Biryani Point Hotel on Guntur Road dumping the waste on the road. The hotel management assured the officials that they would not violate rules in the future and added that they would follow waste management guidelines as prescribed by the corporation. Earlier, the OMC initiated ‘Well-being Out of Waste’ (WoW) programme to create awareness on proper disposal and clearance of the waste. The Swachh Mitra activists have been educating the residents on waste management, sanitation and cleanliness.
