The Anglo Indian Welfare Federation of India has urged the Union government to fill vacancies in the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) at the earliest. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Augustine Roy Rozario, the forum’s national president, said the Commission, a statutory body, had been non-functional for several months owing to vacancies that arose due to the end of tenures of the Chairperson and some members. Mr. Rozario pointed out the post of NCM Chairperson had remained vacant following the retirement of Iqbal Singh Lalpura in April 2025. Besides, the posts of vice-chairperson and five other members remained unfilled following the expiry of their tenures, he added.
