Six persons were arrested by the excise enforcement officials for transporting ganja and illicit liquor in two separate operations conducted in Khammam and Sangareddy districts on Monday (January 5, 2026). In the first case, excise officials seized 7.4 kilograms of ganja being transported from Odisha to Palvancha on a motorcycle and arrested three persons during vehicle checks conducted opposite the Keshavapuram panchayat office on the outskirts of Palvancha town. The accused were identified as Sambasiva Rao, Bhukya Srihari and Pothula Chinna. Along with the contraband, officials seized the motorcycle used for transportation and three mobile phones. The accused were later handed over to the Palvancha Excise Station for further legal action. The seized ganja is estimated to be worth about ₹3.5 lakh. In a separate operation on the same day, excise teams seized MDMA drugs concealed in liquor bottles and confiscated non-duty paid liquor during inspections in the Chiragpally area under the Zaheerabad Excise jurisdiction in Sangareddy district. According to Medak Deputy Commissioner Harikishan, three cases were registered in which 0.42 grams of MDMA were seized. In two other cases, officials confiscated 13.8 litres of non-duty paid liquor and 8.8 litres of other liquor. Three persons, identified as K. Anurudh Reddy, I. Jagadish Varma and S. Ramesh, were arrested in connection with these cases and brought to the Zaheerabad Excise Station. The inspections were carried out jointly by the Sangareddy District Task Force and Zaheerabad Excise teams. Further investigation is underway in both the cases.
